What's on at OM Music Sanctuary?

Update for November 2023: we are pleased to share our latest timetable, now in operation - see below!

Our current timetable can be seen below (you can click on the image to expand it). As our members and volunteers experience a wide range of challenges, we take a flexible approach to scheduling, so please note that the timetable may change at times; we will do our best to update this page and our Facebook page with the latest information. Our planned closure dates can be seen below.

Please feel free to get in touch to enquire about joining any of the activities!

Dates of Planned Closures and Electric Café Events

We may sometimes need to close the studio due to holidays, church events or maintenance. The dates when we plan to close can be seen on the calendar below. If our volunteers are unwell and we have to close unexpectedly, we will do our best to contact those who we know are planning to come along and to post on our Facebook page.

The Electric Cafe events currently run on Saturdays except for the one Saturday per month when the Mad Jam Open Mic event is on - this is nearly always the 2nd Saturday of the month (see dates below) at Augustine United Church on George IV Bridge. The Mad Jam provides an opportunity for people in the community to perform in a friendly, inclusive setting; all are welcome to come along to listen and enjoy the evening! For more details and information about how to book a performing slot, see the Mad Jam Facebook page.

Update - November 2023

Posted on 15th November, 2023

Somehow time has flown by, as ever - and we have a revised timetable, shown above! Guitar classes are currently on hold, but we will let you know when they resume. In the meantime, we are very pleased to introduce two new volunteers: Peter, teaching piano, and Mandy, teaching violin... their profiles will be posted in due course! Here's to lots more music-making...

As the whirlwind of Festival season comes to an end, we are re-opening with our new timetable above from Monday 4th September! We are delighted to welcome our latest studio volunteer, Robert, who will be offering some new opportunities.

Liz, our piano tutor, is taking some time off for health reasons, so intermediate piano classes remain on hold; however, Ralph has kindly offered to take the beginner classes.

The Electric Cafe is back on 2nd September, and the Coorie-In Cafe on 6th September at Southside Community Centre from 12pm. We hope to see you all soon!

Latest - Summer 2023

Posted on 17th August, 2023

We hope everyone is getting a chance to relax over the summer! Unfortunately our volunteers have been struggling with illnesses, so due to this and some holiday time, we have had to close the studio until 4th September. We will be posting an updated timetable for the next season in due course... and hope to see everyone soon!

Summer 2023 update

Posted on 24th July, 2023

From the end of July until the beginning of September, Ralph and Liz will be taking some time off to recharge and catch up on other things! However, our other volunteers will still be around, and we hope we'll have a new volunteer starting on Wednesdays soon... watch this space! We're operating a reduced timetable in the period - this can be seen above. As ever, if you have any queries, don't hesitate to get in touch. Meanwhile, we wish you a relaxing summer with some sunshine amid the showers!

Electric Cafe summer break - August 2023

Posted on 15th July, 2023

As ever, it's been a busy time in the studio with classes and some great recording sessions! The ELECTRIC CAFE is taking a break - tomorrow's (15th July) will be the last one until Saturday 2nd September. We'll miss everyone but hope to see you at the OM Band Fringe gigs at the Southside Centre on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th August at 5.45pm - free entry (but donations always welcome!)

Electric Cafe update

Posted on 30th May, 2023

Hi everyone, it's been a busy time at OM! We have decided that we will not run the Electric Cafe on the Saturdays when the Mad Jam Open Mic night is on - this is one Saturday per month. It's usually the second Saturday of the month, but please check their Facebook for details - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064520569491. It's always a great night, so feel free to come along!

We apologise for our period of closure - we've really missed everyone. However, we are glad to announce that we are open again at last! We're still in Palmerston Place Church and still offering group lessons, jamming and recording. We also have a new phone number (it's on our Get In Touch page) in case you've been trying the old one. We really hope to see everyone soon and hope to welcome some new members too!

We hope you are all keeping well! Now we're into dark nights and cold, rainy days, we are glad to announce that we've started a new free weekly music group - including a free lunch! - running every Wednesday afternoon from 12.30-4pm at the Southside Community Centre in Newington. We're so grateful to the Southside team for allowing us to have this space, and hope to welcome lots of new people in!

Meanwhile the studio is keeping busy, and the Electric Café is still running on Saturdays from 1-4pm at Annan House, 10 Palmerston Place. Any unexpected closures or cancellations can be found on our Facebook page.

Summer 2022 update

Posted on 4th July, 2022

Sorry for the long silence - it's been a busy year, with lots of recording and playing... we are currently working on producing an album of original music recorded in the studio this year, which will be great - each track will be by a different artist! Watch this space for updates...

We are glad to say that we are back open after a holiday and looking forward to welcoming members old and new to the studio. We are working on a timetable but for the moment, please get in touch to book your visit.

Please note that our Wednesday studio volunteer will not be available during the summer holidays, so the studio will be closed on Wednesday afternoons, while we play at a music group at The Hub community centre in Newington (get in touch if you'd like to come along!)

We will be running the Electric Cafe every Saturday afternoon during July and August, so we hope to have lots of people coming - everyone is welcome to listen or play! This event is held in Annan House, the building next to Palmerston Place Church.

Here's to a great, musical summer - we hope to see you soon!
